TRAUMA INFORMED CARE
The image above is a representation of the Japanese philosophy highlighting that the value of an object is not its beauty, but its imperfections and that these imperfections deserve to be celebrated not hidden. Healing from trauma is similar in that you can learn to put all parts of you back together to allow for integration, forgiveness, healing and wisdom. Remember that the trauma you experienced does not define you. You are inherently born worthy and whole, and it is possible to rediscover this truth while learning to embrace, accept and love all parts of you. Majority of human beings, if not all, live through some form of traumatic experience in their life.
Trauma can result when you experience any type of abuse such as physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, mental, psychological or neglect (physical, educational, medical, emotional, environmental or inadequate supervision). Trauma occurs from exposure to an incident or series of events that are emotionally disturbing or life-threatening with lasting adverse effects on their functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, and/or spiritual well-being. Trauma can also occur from witnessing war, a natural disaster or another person's life being threatened.
In addition, trauma can also result from the negative impact of oppressive systems that are embedded within society and can be past down from generation to generation. Trauma is a subjective experience that is uniquely felt by each person and the severity is determined by the individual who experiences it.
Trauma can negatively alter a persons perspective of self, others and the world largely due to the significant dysregulation that occurs in the central nervous system.
If the experience of abuse and trauma becomes pervasive the symptoms or experiences can also worsen.
PLEASE KNOW THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH, CHANGE AND HEALING IS ALWAYS POSSIBLE.
